Hedy is built for demanding AI and deep learning workloads, featuring a high-density architecture designed for maximum performance:
A Name Inspired by a Pioneer
The cluster's name, Hedy, is a tribute to the remarkable actress and inventor Hedy Lamarr. Beyond her screen career, Lamarr was a technological pioneer who co-developed a radio guidance system for Allied torpedoes during WWII, utilizing a technique called frequency hopping (a foundational principle for modern technologies like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth). Naming this AI-focused cluster after her honors her legacy in both innovation and groundbreaking technology.
My Role in the Administration
My work in the administration of the Hedy cluster involved ensuring the stability, security, and optimal performance of this advanced infrastructure. A critical component of my role involved Data Engineering for system integration: I was responsible for configuring the data pipeline to seamlessly connect the cluster with the MesoNET project through the Gramc API.
This integration work ensured the smooth flow of accounting, resource allocation, and job scheduling data across the platform. In addition to this specialized data work, my responsibilities included managing the HPC scheduler (SLURM), maintaining the high-speed interconnects, and configuring the specialized software environments required to leverage the full power of the NVIDIA H100 GPUs for research projects.
